Happy First Birthday Carbon.Scot

02 September, 2025 - Gilbert West

It's been a year since the first public iteration of the website launched. What's on the cards for the coming years?

Over the past year, the website has seen a lot of small incremental changes and of course the continual data collection has kept on ticking over so that the site has almost real-time information.

I didn't manage to get the Survey of Scottish Councils and Health Boards published in the first year, but it'll be out at the end of October and then become an annual report.

The focus of the site will always be electricity as it underpins everything else, but I'll also take a thematic focus each year running from September to September. So for 25/26, the focus will be on the elephant in the room, the jaggedy thistle nobody wants to tackle, especially in an election year ... TRANSPORT.

Here's a heads up on the programme of work for subsequent years.

  • September 2024/2025 - Electricity
  • September 2025/2026 - Transport
  • September 2026/2027 - Buildings/Heating
  • September 2027/2028 - Agriculture

The rationale is that transport is urgent, by 26/27 there will have been some time for new building regs to have bedded in and by 27/28, we'll be able to see some decent data on the impact of the Whole Farm Plans introduced this year.
